Lab News
Sep 2026 - Apologies, catching up to a lot of news! All new - old stuff copied to the archive tab.
Sept 2026: Warm welcome to new group members: Chloe Carroll will spearhead the charge to open new directions in mass spectrometry for our lab while continuing our NMR metabolomics; Connor Meehan is diving headfirst into non-uniform sampling and will take us in new directions including AI and more. Finally we are excited to work with Tessa Kopetchny of the Smith lab to take continue peptide work. Will be a great semester! August 2026: new work discussing the classical symmetry number and how to make it more accessible just published in J Phys Chem A; this came about because DSR has been wrestling with how to teach the concept, while Henry has been developing group theory for the Qter project, and we saw an opportunity to work together on this. We hope it stimulates folks to delve further into this fascinating concept. August 2026: grateful that the NSF grant supporting our NUS work was renewed, looking forward to the new directions that this will open up for our lab; Spring 2026: DSR was recognized as Bucknell Presidential Professor, which provides opportunities to grow our metabolomics research over the next three years. May 2026: It is always a difficult farewell, but so proud of graduating seniors Cecilia Dial, Josh Do, Morgan DeWeese, and Ally Cruz-Flores. Look for them to do incredible things after Bucknell, no joke, I hope I taught them as much as they taught me. Fall 2025: Dipping our toes into intrinsically disordered peptides, we were fortunate contribute some NMR to a fascinating study of potential AMPs with our colleage, Professor Sarah Smith. Congrats to Josh on taking a deep dive into TOCSY's, NOEs and more to work out this spectroscopy. Fall 2025: the new scheduler is published in Analytical Chemistry which develops and implements new theory to make 1D NUS schedules decoherent; big congrats to Henry and Lucy. The new scheduler USched is available on NMRbox now, give it a try for generating improved one-dimensional NUS schedules.
April 2023 We've been working on this a while, a multi-CMC model that detects and demonstrates multiple CMCs in NMR shift data of bile micelles that has just come out in JCIS; very big team effort, congrats to the students! April 2023ENC is here and congrats to Lucy Cullen on speaking wednesday morning: aliasing is a barrier to sparser 1D-NUS, a barrier we can overcome!
March 2023Congrats to Lucy Cullen on recent publication of her work, on improved 1D-NUS for 2D-NMR. Dec 2022 Christmas wrapup - can't give away too much, but great results for Joanna and Rachel and Lucy to wrap up the semester and our goal for 2023 is to share them!
Aug 2022 Wrapped up a great time at SMASH in La Jolla. Went too fast...
Spring 2022Too many updates! Congrats to Jayne McDevitt who will be starting in Penn for their cancer biology program. Big welcome to Joanna Raup-Collado who is diving into bee metabolomics. Dec 2021 Yes, it's NMR of the bee brain and more! Good job on the writing and strong work by Jayne McDevitt and congrats to Sydney Dickinson and all of the talented students who made this unique work possible. Watch this space, because there's more in the works.
Nov 2021 Take a look at the recent NUScon report, and be sure to keep an eye out for announcements of future NUS competitions. Nov 2021 DSR heading to EAS to share latest results from Team Micelle. Looking forward to seeing friends and colleagues there. Nov 2021 Congrats to Emma Robinson (MS) and Matt Taddeo (BA) on the publication of their work on NAFLD Metabolomics with the Geisinger Obesity Institute. Oct 2021 Warm welcome to MS candidate Lucy Cullen diving into NMR technology! July 2021 Happy 4th to all. Really enjoying our interdisciplinary summer research team with the Strein lab (Jake K, Mitch M, Robert T). Spr 2021 Excellent job to Jayne McDevitt presenting at both ENC and Metabolomics 2021; I'm also impressed with how online meetings have gone.
