The start of the school year is always a chaotic and a somewhat exciting time. New classes, a new year, new planners, and new locker decorations. It is getting back into a routine and feeling organized. Well, for a week. Now that we are a month in, especially for upperclassmen it’s easy to give up. I think I’ve heard almost everyone say, “eh, oh well,” at least once now. When you fall into that trap you end up procrastinating and getting more stressed. We all know the last thing we need is additional stress. To prevent that, I’ve spoken with what I consider some of the most organized, motivated students and teachers to give tips on how to stay strong for the school year!
One of the most upbeat people at our school, Emmaline Perkins, gave me a little insight on how she stays so positive. She says her secret is, “not letting anything get to me. I always look for a positive in a negative situation.” These are simple words, but put into practice her attitude shows how much of a difference it could make. We all have classes that are the worst or maybe a bad lunch, but I guarantee it could be so much worse. We are all very blessed in Princeville. Our attitude will only change if we start looking at the positive side of things.
As far as organization, getting yourself in line in your head will benefit your grades and your mental health. Emma bird says using a planner helps her: “It really helps me, but you need to make it a habit. Consistently. Everyone has a different style though, whether you use a phone to set reminders, a pencil and paper planner, or a computer. Find your own personal style.” Using a planner can help you get your homework done on time, get your events straight, and be on time. Another anonymous student said, “Writing everything down helps me. Making a list and checking it off is really satisfying. Also make it fun by using cute tape or pens!”
For Seniors, Mrs. Schoedel provided some wise insight, “Don't look at this as the end. The chapter may close, but this is just the beginning.” If we look at this as a finish line, it will put us in a bad mindset for the school year and the rest of life. We still have so much ahead of us! Getting excited about the future will help us in the present. It gives us something to look forward to.
This year, make it a goal to get organized, stay positive, and find motivation. These are hard things to build up, but I guarantee they won’t only help you now, but also in the future. Give yourself a goal, start a small habit, and stay strong!
