On September 8, three agriculture students, Emmaline Perkins, Kate Coats, and Kate Colgan, went to Blackhawk East and competed in the Section FFA Horse Judging Contest.
One of the first things they did when they arrived was take a picture with the State Reporter, Shaylee Clinton. They were then separated into groups A,B,C, and D in the bleachers.
The first thing they did after being separated was judge the pattern classes. They judging how each horse was presented while performing a certain pattern.
Following the pattern classes, students went down into the arena to judge the halter classes. They examined and ranked horses based on physical appearance such as the arrangement of bones, muscle, and other tissues. When they were done, the competitors turned in their judging sheets and were told they would receive the results via email.
