Princeville FFA placed third overall in the chapter Forestry Career Development Event (CDE) on September 10 at Putnam County High School.
Members of the team included seniors Briar Hilsabeck and Stephen Christianson, junior Kip Hoerr, sophomore Kyle Bird, and freshmen Kate Colgan, Dakoda Maguire, and Quentin Cooper.
The FFA organization requires that participants in the Forestry CDE “respond to a forest industry scenario with problem solving using forestry skills and tools.” The event is geared towards preparing students for careers in natural resources or forestry.
“I learned that there is a lot more to forest scouting than just identifying trees,” said Briar Hilsabeck. “I don’t plan on a career in forestry, but it was a good experience to learn and Princeville’s first time ever doing this contest.”
