PHS fall sports are quickly coming to an end. Right now golf is the only sport that has ended and cross country regionals are this Saturday. Football will be finishing their regular season this Friday and volleyball has two more games before regionals next Wednesday.
The golf season came to an end a few weeks ago. The girls had a great season and ended with a 4-4 record. Their 9 hole average was 232. The team had 3 new people join this year's girls team, McKenna Roberts, Isabelle Tendrick, & Lindsey Day. We also had 3 returning golfers, Neleh Geiger, Paisley Schock, & Audrey Bowermaster. The top 3 golfers on the team were Neleh Geiger, Paisley Schock, and McKenna Roberts. Neleh’s 9 Hole average was 56 and Paisley’s was right behind her with 57. McKenna ended with an average of 60. The team placed 6th out of 8 teams at the LTC Meet in Cambridge. The girls team also competed in a very tough IHSA Regional and placed 13th out of 14 teams. The boys varsity team ended with a record of 2-13. The varsity team avg. for 9 holes was 213. Scout Schock had the lowest 9 hole avg. of 46, followed by CJ Seaman with 52, and Aiden Huss with 54. The team placed 6th out of 10 teams at the LTC Meet in Monmouth and placed 11th out of 14 teams at the Spring Valley Regional.
The Cross Country has completed their regular season and will be competing in the Regional meet in Eureka this Saturday, October 22. If things go well, the runners will run again the following week in sectionals held at Elmwood. Then the state meet will be held on Saturday, November 5th. According to Coach Melick, during the Elmwood race on October 1st, almost every runner got a season or lifetime best time. This past weekend, at Detweiller Park, many of them lowered their times again. Unfortunately, the girls’ team has been battling with injuries and illnesses during this season. This has thrown off the train a bit. When healthy, the girls team has worked very hard and put forth a great effort. The girls team is finding the right balance between hard training and keeping them fresh for the next competition. The boys’ cross country team has also done very well this season and is steadily improving. The boys’ have been mostly fortunate with their injuries and this has definitely helped. Coach Melick stated, “Their times at the Elmwood Invite on October 1st put them into the conversation as one of the best teams in school history, which is exciting.” The boys are pretty competitive with each other, which has pushed them to practice and race harder. The boys Cross Country team won the Lincoln Trail Conference meet on October 6th. They tied Mercer County for the best score, but ended up losing the tie-breaker and finishing second. Alyvia Cowser, Joey Bosch, Tucker Sennett, Matthew Bowers, and Jack Lied all were awarded as all-conference runners. That ties the teams from 2019 and 2020 for the most in school history in a single season. Good luck to all the runners competing in the Regionals this Saturday!
