This year we have a lot of new staff at Princeville Jr/Sr High School! This week we are going to focus on Mr. Brown (new Science teacher in the Jr. High pictured on left) & Mr. Williams (new Social Studies teacher in the High School pictured on right). I interviewed these teachers this past week and here's a few things they shared about themselves.
Mr. Brown grew up right up the road in Toulon and went to school in Stark County. He went to college at Carl Sandburg first, then finished his Bachelor’s at Bradley University. When I asked him about his favorite part about teaching, he said it was when he has students show him something they found on their own that they found interesting. And he chose science because he likes to inspire young students. He likes to show that everything we do has to do with science, and he likes to see when students connect the dots from science to the real world. He didn’t at first think he was going to be a teacher, he wanted to be a firefighter. He said that plan didn’t pan out too well.
Our other teacher is Mr. Williams. He is a new high school teacher this year who graduated from Princeville High School. Mr. Williams went to college at Illinois College in Jacksonville. When I asked him what his favorite part of teaching was, it was that he likes to see students be creative. He likes seeing you succeed, but then it's what comes after that he likes most. He said he didn't want to be a teacher until he got to his junior or senior year of high school. After he got out of college he was really close to joining the armed forces. Mr. Williams is married and has two daughters. He finished by saying his favorite food is ribeye steak. And if he had to meet anyone dead or alive, he said Ulysses S. Grant. He wants to have a conversation with Grant so he can decide for himself what Grant is really like. Ulysses S. Grant is a controversial person, so Mr. Williams wants to have his own opinion.
I hope you got to know a little more about our new teachers, and next time you see them make sure to say hi to them in the hallway!
