Each year, the Princeville Community Unit School District comes together to honor the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in the military during our annual Veterans Day program. This year was particularly special as we welcomed guest speaker Carl Theobold, a Navy veteran who shared his personal experiences and reflections on the importance of service and sacrifice. When interviewed, Mr. Theobold shared how he would stay in touch with family and friends by writing letters and sharing tape recorders back and forth. His compelling stories not only highlighted the challenges faced by veterans but also inspired students and community members to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy today. The program included an explanation of the Missing Man Table; a table filled with deep symbolism that is dedicated to honoring the brave American military members who have died in battle, those who have not returned after being captured in foreign countries, and those who are missing and have not come back home. Each veteran who attended were recognized as their names, rank, and branch they served in were announced. Every veteran also received heartfelt poems from kindergarten and third grade buddies and 7th and 8th grade students. The program then included musical performances by PHS Junior, Sophie Noonen and our 5th grade chorus as well. This event serves as a powerful reminder of the values of courage, resilience, and gratitude that are essential to our community. We thank all of our veterans for their service!
