On October 18, 2021, Mrs. Sudrzynski’s classes were excited to dissect frogs. For many of the students, this was their first time dissecting. Mrs. Sudrzynski wanted to give us this opportunity because you are seeing inside and applying what you learned through an exciting hands-on project. Before we were able to dissect the frogs we had to watch a video of a man demonstrating the dissection of frogs. We also had to fill out a worksheet so that Mrs. Sudrzynski knew that we understood the basics of dissecting. The frogs were massive; they were slimy too. We used tools including a probe, scalpel, pins and scissors. We all had trays including those tools and goggles.
We got gloved up and geared up and then we started dissecting. We were able to see the heart, intestines, webbed footing, mouth, liver, stomach, and lungs. It was really neat that we were able to locate the mouth and make the tongue flip manually like it does when frogs are alive. It was interesting to see the inner workings of the frog’s mouth. When we dissected we had to explain what it looked liked and what it felt like and write it down on a piece of paper. While we were dissecting them sometimes some juices would fly out which was really gross but it was really funny at the same time. Mrs. Sudrzynski had to teach us rules that we had to follow because she had to make sure she could trust us and that we would follow rules.
We all had a really fun time doing this lab and we got to learn things while having fun, plus we also got to learn if people were scared of frogs or not! Overall dissecting frogs was a great experience and we are glad that we could do it as a class.
