Since August, the Princeville Princes football team has worked long and hard at practice in order to prepare for their future games. On November 2nd, the Princes stepped onto the home field for one last game of the season.
The team was able to end their 2019 season with a total of seven wins and two losses during their normal season. That then led them to their final game this season against Stockon where they were defeated 20 to 7.
Going into this game Carter Johnson “wasn’t ready to see [his] season end.” However he “was fairly confident [their team could win]."
When reflecting on the game itself, Hayden Hughes felt that the best part was “the atmosphere that everyone brought. It was a tough hard-headed defensive game. It was sloppy and muddy, and tempers flared, it was just one of those games people dream about.”.
Although the team had to face a discouraging loss against Stockton when they had their first playoff game, Johnson was glad that the team “was able to start a new form of Princeville offense [that can hopefully help] in the future with passing.”
Adam Hurst thought that “overall we did a pretty good job cutting down on flags, and getting our fundamentals down.”
Since the season is over and several students will soon be going to college to focus on their major, Dean Dearing stated that “I have come to realize that I didn't prepare and reach my potential, I do believe there is always room for improvement and I wish I could have done more.”
However, “Coach Carruthers believes that all the players “should be proud of what they have accomplished in their four-year career being on teams that qualified for the playoffs for three straight years."
Reflecting back throughout the years, Hughes thought that “as a team, we grew up a lot together, we went through our lows and celebrated our highs of the season and it was a great team to play with! We were undoubtedly a good ball club, and I wouldn't trade them for any other team.”
