Our high school volleyball teams are up and running. The girls started their season with a home opener vs the Ridgewood Spartans where all three teams, Freshmen, JV and Varsity, all came out on top. All players and coaches are thrilled to get the chance to play and are looking forward to the rest of the season and what it has to bring to them.
We asked both JV and Varsity coaches a few questions about the outlook on the season and here is what they had to say about it all. When we asked JV coach Anna Schupbach what her and her team's goals for the season were, she responded with “My JV teams have been conference champs the last two years, so it’s a goal of ours to keep that streak going, and I believe it will be achieved with this group of girls.” Varsity coach, Charissa Ouart added that their goals were “to win the LTC conference with no losses and to also have an undefeated season overall.” With only 7 days to prepare for the first game, we asked both coaches what the players have been doing to prepare for the season. Coach Schupbach said,“The girls have not only been improving in their skills, but getting stronger and faster in the weight room. I believe the best way to take your game to the next level is getting physically stronger. Since it’s a short preseason I’ve been doing my best to find the best ways to be ready for game situations in a shorter amount of time.” Coach Ouart added that her varsity team has “5 returning Seniors- Elle Schupbach, Ashleigh Brawley, Lindsey Meisenheimer, Grace Dearing, and Emmaline Perkins that bring a lot of experience and talent to lead our team. Along with our Juniors, we have a very talented, aggressive, and overall competitive team.”
Both coaches explained that the shortened season isn’t ideal and is disappointing to not be able to have a postseason, especially with the talent they have this year, but are glad that the girls get the chance to play.
