On Friday, May 17th, the students of PJSHS gathered in the Jr. High gym for the second annual senior awards assembly. The event, organized by PJSHS Guidance Counselor Sara Bushman, was designed to recognize the seniors, but also show the younger students what opportunities lie ahead of them to fund their education. Many scholarships were handed out, each presented by a representative of the business or organization who offered them. The grand total of money the class earned was $493,000. Along with this impressive number, special mentions went to the recipients of several awards as well.
Isaac Glenzinski received both the DAR Good Citizen Award and the Lincoln Senior Award. Lily Andrews, Taylor Baird, Isaac Glenzinski, Emily Green, Alyssa Headley, Destiny Herrmann, Collin Martin, and Adam Snedden were named Illinois State Scholars. Awards given by the school included the senior art award, given to Jessie Haste, the Brett Patterson Sportsmanship Award, given to Justin Janssen and Peyton Kraft, and the Tom Bruna Award, given to Jack Arnett. Also recognized were the recipients of the American Legion Award: Destiny Herrmann and Adam Snedden, and the Sterling Merit Award: Emily Green, Destiny Herrmann, Collin Martin, and Adam Snedden. A ceremony was held for the Sterling Merit scholars on May 7th. Mrs. Bushman also read off each student’s college plans along with their advice to younger students. “I think it is very important for the rest of the student body to celebrate the seniors and see what is possible,” said Bushman The senior awards ceremony was a success, and served to be another step leading up to the big day.On Sunday, May 19th, 53 PHS seniors ended one chapter of their lives and began another.
