The PJHS eighth-grade boys basketball season came to a recent end on January 31st. With a record of 6 and 11, the boys are sad to see their season end but are excited about the high school opportunities to come. After an odd season with a shutdown, due to a COVID outbreak, the boys still stuck to it and did their best.
Jett Benningfield, an eighth-grader, said, “I’m very sad about our season ending, but I can’t wait to be a high school basketball player.” He described the end of his season as devastating, but used the words, “all good things come to an end.” Jett and his teammates had a special bond on and off the court. “I’m going to miss playing my favorite sport with my best friends,” Jett said.
I asked Coach Phelps some questions about his team. After asking what the group of boys were like, Phelps said, “the ability is there… they need to learn to work together.” As the group of boys progresses to be underclassmen, Coach Phelps hopes, “they learn to play well together and learn that the whole team is more important than any individual stat or success.” Phelps believes that each teammate needs to, “push themselves to be better and work as hard as possible to improve and keep growing as basketball players and individuals.”
Here’s to hoping they bring their passion and motivation to the high school court once the time comes.
