This month at PGS, fourth grade students have been working hard on the annual Career Day project. The Career Day Project has been a fourth grade tradition for 20 years, and the students love it! The teachers also enjoy this project because they like getting to see the kids get over their initial fear of speaking in front of other people.
The kids are required to pick a career that interests them, research it, create a handout with key points about the job, and give a minute long presentation (while dressed up as their career) in front of their classmates and families. This project helps get the kids excited about a possible future career and teaches them about time management and public speaking. They’re allowed one month to work on the project so they have plenty of time to get everything done, and teachers encourage the kids to break down their responsibilities into week-long chunks. For example, one week to pick a career, one week to research, one week to create their handout, etc.
I, as a senior, remember doing my Career Day project in fourth grade and I really enjoyed it. It was fun to see all of your classmates present their interests and dress up. The teachers and students put a lot of work into these projects and hope that you enjoy them!
