As the warmer weather welcomes outdoor ventures and the school year begins to wrap up, the Calculus and Physics classes took their annual Six Flags visit. They made their way to the St. Louis Six Flags location on Friday, April 12 with 21 students. This trip has been happening for more than 10 years, and is continuously a source of excitement for students. The event is organized by William Phelps and Monica Grant, the teachers who break down the science and math aspects behind these real-life examples.
“This trip enables kids to witness and apply what they have learned throughout the year in both Physics and Calculus. It is real world applications of lessons,” says Phelps.
The amusement park creates real, visual representations of math and physics actively at work, while engaging the high school students. The trip participants convey their knowledge that has been compounded throughout the school year with assignments to complete during their time at Six Flags. Although the school subjects play a major role in this trip, the kids genuinely enjoy spending time with friends, and of course, riding the various rides. Simply put by Phelps, “The kids enjoy going to six flags because it is roller coasters. I mean come on, roller coasters equal fun.”
