In this performance, only two songs between Shakira and JLo were sung in Spanish. All the songs JLo sung were in English whereas Shakira had snippets from her songs "Ojos Asi" and "Chantaje". Jennifer Lopez and Shakira's decision to introduce Bad Bunny and J Balvin during the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime show can be seen as a strategic move to showcase the diversity within Latinidad and address the multilingual nature of the Latin music industry. JLo and Shakira are widely known for their English-language hits whereas Bad Bunny and J Balvin only produce music in Spanish. Despite Jlo and Shakira's immense popularity in the English-speaking world, incorporating Spanish-speaking artists reinforced the idea that Latinidad transcends language barriers. By featuring artists who primarily sing in Spanish, the show expanded the narrative of Latinidad beyond language and emphasized that the Latinx experience is multifaceted. In numerous ways the two headliners highlight Latinx culture through their dances, outfits, and beats remixed throughout the performance. Shakira and Lopez challenged the perception that Latinidad is confined to a specific language. They showcased the richness and diversity of Latin music and reinforced the idea that cultural representation goes beyond linguistic boundaries.
