Dual enrollment is an exciting program that allows secondary students, including those in home education and private schools, to take college-level courses and earn both high school and postsecondary credits simultaneously. This opportunity is available at Florida public institutions and eligible private institutions, enabling students to work towards a high school diploma, career certificate, associate degree, or even a baccalaureate degree.
VISIONARY ACADEMY K12 OFFERS CONCURRENT COLLEGE CREDIT THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH HILLSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE (HCC), PASCO-HERNANDO STATE COLLEGE (PHSC), AND UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA (USF) LOCATED IN TAMPA, FLORIDA. THE DUAL-ENROLLMENT COURSES ARE TAUGHT BY COLLEGE PROFESSORS AT HCC AND STUDENTS ALSO HAVE THE ABILITY TO TAKE COURSES ONLINE WITH HILLSBOROUGH COMMUNITY. STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO EARN HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT AS WELL AS COLLEGE CREDITS CONCURRENTLY. BECAUSE HCC IS AN ACCREDITED SCHOOL, THESE CREDITS CAN BE TRANSFERRED TO ANY COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY AFTER GRADUATION. THERE IS NO COLLEGE TUITION COSTS TO THE STUDENTS TAKING THESE COURSES.
To participate in the dual enrollment program, students must meet the following criteria as specified in section 1007.271(3) of the Florida Statutes (F.S.):
Enrollment Requirements:
Be enrolled in a Florida public or private secondary school (grades 6-12) or in a home education program.
Academic Requirements:
Have a 3.0 unweighted high school grade point average (GPA) to enroll in college credit courses. This ensures that they are academically prepared to handle the rigor of college-level coursework.
Have a 2.0 unweighted high school GPA to enroll in career dual enrollment courses. This lower threshold recognizes that these courses might have different academic demands compared to traditional college credit courses, making them accessible to a broader range of students who are pursuing career-oriented education.
College Readiness:
For college credit courses, demonstrate college readiness as outlined in Rule 6A-10.0315 of the Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.) and pursuant to Rule 6A-14.064, F.A.C.
Institution-Specific Criteria:
Meet any additional eligibility criteria specified by the postsecondary institution in the Dual Enrollment Articulation Agreement.
Graduation Status:
Not be scheduled to graduate from high school before completing the dual enrollment course.
