Raya was born out of the need for everyone to be aware of their mental health in these turbulent times. She brings all the learning characters together and without her it is almost impossible to achieve effective learning.
This half-term, we are focusing on Raya the Respectful Butterfly, our Building Learning Powers (BLP) character.
Raya encourages us to nurture a set of valued behaviours that are essential to both personal development and positive learning experiences. As outlined in our Behaviour: Whole-School Progression Document, Raya embodies the following values:
Belief – Believing in oneself and others, with the understanding that situations can change. Pupils are developing a growth mindset, drawing on their inner resources to overcome challenges.
Positivity – Embracing hope and seeing the way forward, even in difficult circumstances. Pupils are learning to feel good about themselves, their futures, and the world around them.
Mindfulness – Taking time to reflect and just ‘be.’ Our pupils are developing self-awareness, learning to regulate their emotions, and understanding their mental and physical well-being.
Regard – Showing empathy, kindness, and respect to others. Pupils are learning the importance of manners and developing their ability to engage reciprocally with their peers.
Self-efficacy – Valuing themselves and promoting their own welfare. Pupils are building intrinsic motivation, confidence, and resilience to face the challenges ahead.
These behaviours are at the core of who we are as a school and we are incredibly proud of how our pupils are already demonstrating these qualities in their daily lives.
Together, with your support, we will continue to foster an environment that promotes these values, encouraging our children to become well-rounded, confident individuals who believe in their abilities.
Our Food, Faith and Farming Fortnight theme this year was Respect — a core British Value, as well as a focus for us through our school’s values and our BLP (Building Learning Power) character, Raya the Respectful Butterfly.
During this fortnight, we have explored together how Respect can be applied in all areas of life, from how we relate to our food sources to how we engage with different faiths and communities, as well as in our appreciation for farming and the natural world around us.
Raya the Respectful Butterfly teaches us the importance of belief, positivity, mindfulness and regard for others. These values have underpined all our activities across the last two weeks.
