GEOGRAPHY INTENT STATEMENT -
Children will develop a love for Geography.
We will inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about Geography that will remain with them for the rest of their lives and motivate their on-going learning.
We will go beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum for Geography; providing a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum; ensuring a progressive development of geographical concepts, knowledge and skills.
Our high-quality Geography Education will help pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of our local environment and its place in the wider world.
We will take many trips out and use our rich local environment whenever possible.
We will seek the support of local experts wherever possible.
Our Geography teaching will have a wide application to everyday life, teaching the children to have an awareness of where they are and how the environment around them has been built and has changed. We will regularly use maps, plans and aerial photographs. We will use “Google Earth” and “Google Maps” to explore places we are visiting, - and places that are too far away for us to visit.
Geography lessons focus on developing geographical skills and on children working as geographers. We intend for our children to have real life experiences and learn about geography in an active and creative way (eg use of maps, plans, aerial photographs, diagrams, collecting data, close observation of rocks etc). Links to other subject areas will be explored and developed.
The planning of the children’s learning always begins with the skills and knowledge that needs to be taught. Enrichment opportunities and opportunities to apply learning are carefully mapped.
We will develop in children the skills of enquiry, investigation, analysis, evaluation, debate, interpretation, problem solving and presentation.
(It goes without saying) Geography here is fully inclusive to every child.
