Science: Living Things and their Habitat
Science - living things and their habitats
Year 2 have been sorting different animals into their correct habitats, discovering that animals don't just pick a home at random. Instead, they adapt over time to thrive in environments that supply everything they need to survive: shelter, food, water, and enough space to raise their young.
P.E - gymnastics
Year 2 have been turning into fantastic gymnasts this week! The children have worked incredibly hard mastering a variety of shapes and jumps including star jumps, tuck jumps, and pike jumps. They then moved on to poses showing impressive focus and core strength as through arabesques and shoulder stands!
Outdoor learning
Linking in with our science topic, we took our learning ourdoors this week to explore. The children went hunting for mini-beasts and local wildlife, carefully observing where different animals make their homes. It sparked brilliant discussions about why these creatures choose specific spots to live and how our vschool grounds provide the essential shelter, food, and micro-habitats they need to survive.
The next lesson, we moved on to building our own microhabitats, thinking carefully what the creatres in our school grounds need...
PSHE: Wellbeing
During our PSHE lessons, we are thinking all about how to look after ourselves, starting with healthy eating and what good sleep looks like. The children worked hard discussing what a good sleep routine looks like, before drawing and writing about this.
Geography: Leeds and Tokyo
Tour of Leeds
We spent the day in Leeds city centre investigating human and physical features. Our favourite places to see were the Corn Exchange, Leeds Playhouse and Kirkgate Market. We also put our geography skills to work by asking people why they were in Leeds at the Town Hall. After our busy day, we brought our findings back to the classroom to discuss how Leeds can be used for leisure, work, studying and tourism.
We also explored the landmarks in Tokyo, but this time had to be on Google Earth!
The children loved 'walking' through the streets of Tokyo, which sparked conversation about the comparisons between Tokyo and Leeds.
Art in the style of David Hockney
Year 2 have used a range of mediums to create art in the style of Hockney, but most recenly, digital art using iPads.
