Knowledge Organisers should be used to support your child throughout the topic being covered. They provide dates, key vocabulary, key facts and important information that will be covered. Children will use these both in school and at home to supplement their learning, allowing us to work collaboratively together.
This week, the class had some insightful discussions about what religious freedom means to us. From having the choice to believe in what you want, to respecting others' perspectives and worldviews, the children shared some wonderful ideas!
They also put their thoughts into poetry, writing thoughtful lyrics about building a world filled with peace, respect, and harmony. Swipe through to see our mind map and some of their fantastic creative writing!
The class put on their computational thinking hats in Computing! They explored how technology helps keep pedestrians safe by comparing timed crossings and sensor crossings.
They analysed how inputs and sensors work in real-world systems - like detecting if a person is standing in the correct spot, adapting to walking speeds, or preventing traffic from stopping unnecessarily if someone walks away. Great critical thinking and systems analysis by everyone!
Ahoy, Adventurers!
Check out these fantastic persuasive writing. They are trying to convince us why we should all sail around the world! From skipping traffic jams to catching fresh fish and playing family board games at sea, they make very tempting cases.
Nature Detectives at Work!
The class turned into real plant experts, using their iPads to research and identify different hedgerow leaves and plants!
They used digital tools to research facts, and create fantastic visual guides showcasing their discoveries. Brilliant focus, teamwork, and tech skills on display!
Our class stepped outside to explore the local wildlife living right on our doorstep! We looked closely at our hedgerows and lifted ground coverings to see what minibeasts and small creatures call these habitats home.
While exploring, the children also kept an eye out for signs of the changing seasons as nature prepares for autumn and winter. Hands-on discovery at its finest.
We had a great French lesson learning how to name different pets and identify masculine and feminine words (un / une)! Take a look at our brilliant work!
To celebrate Poetry Week, Year 5 had the wonderful privilege of welcoming poet Emilie Lauren Jones!
After an inspiring whole-school assembly, Emilie spent time in our classroom coaching the children on performance skills. She showed us how vocal delivery, mouth and tongue control, and expressive body language can transform a poem on the page into a dynamic live performance.
The children worked brilliantly to memorize lines and perform them with passion, expression, and actions!
The class was full of energy during PE as we worked on our gymnastics skills! The children practiced taking control of their movement while perfecting their rolls, handstands, and cartwheels.
It was wonderful to see everyone building their balance, agility, and confidence on the mats. Fantastic effort and determination from all of our gymnasts!
Our pupils took to the streets to support Sir Kevin Sinfield on his latest ultra-marathon challenge for MND awareness!
Equipped with handmade signs and endless energy, the children waved, cheered, and showed full support as he ran along Richardshaw Lane. We are so proud of our students for coming together to show such amazing community spirit and support for a brilliant cause! Banner-waving at its best!
Year 5 examined how leaders like Jesus, the Maccabees, and Guru Nanak stood up for their core beliefs. The children analyzed the common themes of resilience, standing against injustice, and fighting for peace and harmony. Great critical thinking across the board!
Building on our learning about standing up for beliefs, the children stepped into history to write persuasive letters to Emperor Jahangir regarding the imprisonment of Guru Hargobind.
Using thoughtful arguments, pupils advocated for fairness, freedom of religion, and the release of innocent prisoners. They suggested positive changes to bring peace and joy to the empire, showing incredible empathy and persuasive writing skills!
Year 5 took their gymnastics skills up a notch in PE. Using apparatus like benches and vaulting stands, the children focused on mounting equipment safely, balancing with control, and executing confident jumps and dismounts onto the landing mats.
It was fantastic to see everyone showing such bravery, coordination, and focus as they navigated the apparatus!
Year 5 had an extraordinary outdoor adventure day putting their teamwork, trust, and problem-solving skills to the test!
From harness safety and climbing high on crate-stacking towers to navigating giant skis, shelter building, and rope challenges, the pupils showed unbelievable resilience and bravery! Seeing the class cheer each other on as towers swayed (and tumbled!) was a true highlight.
Huge well done to our courageous outdoor adventurers!
In RE, we explored religious freedom, historical figures who stood up for their beliefs, and how we can build a kinder, more respectful world. The children created brilliant "Ring of Peace" posters and wrote powerful messages on how to support each other and celebrate differences. Take a look at their inspiring work!
In PE, our young gymnasts turned their individual skills into complete routines!
Working with prompt cards and floor mats, the children collaborated in small groups to sequence balances, rolls, and inverted movements together. It was great to see them refining their transitions, supporting one another, and performing their sequences with poise and confidence!
Our young scientists were hard at work investigating different methods for separating mixtures!
Working collaboratively in groups, the children used sieves to separate larger solids and tested filtering techniques with filter paper and funnels to separate insoluble solids from liquids. They showed brilliant teamwork, careful measuring, and great scientific observations throughout the practical!
