Who knew having photos with Big Brothers could be so exciting? Over the course of February our Grade 0s and 7s spent time getting to know each other through our Big Brother Program. The Grade 7s have taken on the mantle of leadership and have taken the Grade 0s under their wings.
The Grade 0 boys thoroughly enjoyed the Valentine's Day Market hosted by their Big Brothers! It was lovely to see the interactions between the seniors of the school and Pridwins newest additions. The highlight for everyone was definitely the many tasty treats on sale.
The Grade 1s celebrated Random Act of Kindness Day on the 17th of February. The boys made Thank you cards for the Pridwin community and walked around the school handing these to staff. This gesture of kindness made the learners more aware of the people around them and brought smiles to the many staff around campus.
A multi-sensory approach to learning uses a child’s senses, i.e., the sense of smell, vision, auditory and touch, as a prompt to support ‘stickability’ when a child is presented with new information. A few action snaps of our Pridwin boys in action.
As part of our Knights and Castles theme, the Grade 2 boys went on an outing to Greensleeves Medieval Castle in Hartbeespoort. This purpose-built experience allows visitors to be immersed in a medieval village. The boys learnt all about Medieval knights, saw and experienced how they lived, worked, fought, what weaponry they used and more. The highlight of any visit to Greensleeves is the king's banquet and our boys loved the experience.
Our boys decided to share some of their favourite things with us. It is great to get to know each other.
The Grade 3s have been working with the fabulous app Book Creator to create their very own animated COMIC BOOKS. Here are a few photos of us hard at work and a few examples of our fabulous creations. We can't wait to share more of them with you soon!
As we enter 2022, we are excited to move forward and are mindful of the beauty and resilience of humankind that has been tested during the pandemic. The Grade 4s created acrostic poems as a celebration of our humanity and the kindness and compassion shared within our Pridwin Community.
The poems were submitted anonymously to the PPA who selected two poems that they believed to be the best and included them on the Pridwin Rose cards. The authors of the winning poems were Sean Kelly and Daniel Cloete!
Our Grade 5 boys have begun exploring their heritages and histories. Over the course of February, they embarked on a mission to discover their family lineages and highlight their findings in a family tree. It is always amazing to see how our families come together and how unique each family tree is.
Grade 6s busy enjoying a Mathletics session in class. Mathletics is a fun way to reinforce the concepts covered in class and an amazing tool to enhance the boys learning.
The Grade 7s have been learning all about the Victorian Era and the working patterns of people during that time. They created 3D graphs using recyclable goods to better understand these patterns.
With the boys settling into their daily routines, it is exciting to hear the early squeaks and squawks changing into beautiful music. Our Combined String Ensemble have recorded their first video for 2022. Our Junior Jazz Band has also doubled in size! As a department, we are looking forward to welcoming parents at our upcoming Lunch Hour Concerts and Soireés!
Our swimmers have trained hard over the course of this season. Here we see some early morning swimming training before some of our boys challenged themselves by completing the Midmar Mile. Well done, lads. You make Pridwin proud!
Over the half term weekend Pridwin was invited to participate in the 17th edition of the St John’s Basketball Tournament. It was a wonderful weekend, and our boys went through to the final undefeated. The final game, against St Benedicts, was interrupted by lightning and was unfortunately not played. The organizing committee in consultation with the St Johns College Executive decided to award both Pridwin and St Benedict's as co-winners for 2022. This is a wonderful achievement and a huge congratulations must go to the boys and coaching staff on once again showcasing Pridwin spirit.
The St Stithians College Sports Festival, held annually over the weekend before and over Easter, is a highlight on any sporting calendar. This year, our boys went up against some formidable sides and came away with some incredible results. 1 draw to KEPS, 2 wins against St Charles and Penryn and 1 loss to St Johns are all results which must be commended. We look forward to seeing our boys at the St Johns College Easter Festival over the upcoming weekend.
A huge congratulations goes to the 30 staff members who took part in the 2022 edition of the JP Morgan Challenge. Great fun was had by all, as staff supported their collegues on the route and after the run with a braai and drinks at Pridwin.
Over the past few weeks our staff have spent Wednesday afternoons in an interactive book club where groups have read and given feedback on different chapters of Nene Molefe's book, Journey of Diversity & Inclusion In South Africa, to the group. These sessions have been invaluable for us as a group to better understand one another.
Keeping up to date with our Pridwin Old Boys.
We are proud to announce the launch of The OPA Network. An online platform which seeks to link all past pupils, parents, and staff. Via the platform members can share job opportunities, list their businesses and services, and stay in contact with fellow Pridwin alumni.
We invite all past and present parents, pupils, and staff to join the OPA network by clicking here.
There was great excitement on campus on Friday 1 April 2022 as we welcomed the class of 2017 back to Pridwin for the Old Boys Chapel and lunch. The boys and their parents enjoyed the time of connection and reminiscing on their memories of the time spent at Pridwin.
Congratulations to Kofi Asumaning who was recently awarded full Academic Honours at Michaelhouse. This is an incredible achievement, and we are immensely proud of him. He also achieved a distinction in his Grade 8 saxophone examinations highlighting the all-round foundation that Pridwin provides.
We had the pleasure of welcoming Janosch Boinski back to Pridwin. He is an old Pridwin boy who now lives in Switzerland. He and his family were in South Africa and popped past to say hi.
