CHARITY
We are an international children’s charity working to ensure that children and young people in Colombia can enjoy their right to a safe, happy childhood and a fulfilling future.
We work to empower and protect vulnerable or at-risk children and young people impacted by violence, poverty and inequality caused by the conflict. These might be children who have been forced from their homes by the armed conflict, who are unable to access an education, or who have been discriminated against because of their gender, their ethnicity or by having lived in care. They might be victims of sexual violence, have left abusive homes, or have experienced the trauma of being recruited into an illegal armed group.
Children in rural Colombia lack access to the science, technology, and critical-thinking education that will define opportunities in the 21st century.
Computational thinking, logical reasoning and data analysis are foundational skills that most rural schools are unable to offer. The Science Toolkit addresses that gap directly, without requiring connectivity or specialist equipment to get started.
We are launching a pilot initiative from June - December 2026, which will serve over 404 children in 3 different schools, in Minca, Tagua and Curvalito.
The toolkit works in schools with technology access as well as those that can only use unplugged activities initially, ensuring inclusion and relevance for all contexts. The kit itself contains a range of items, both physical and digital. These include:
Essential to the success of this project is a structured training programme for the educators taking part. CCC’s previous experience working with schools has shown us that often new tools and equipment provided to schools goes unused and underutilised as teachers are not given proper training on how to incorporate new elements into the curriculum, or are simply provided with resources that are not suitable for their environment. For these reasons, CCC has carefully listened to voices on the ground to include a teacher training course as part of the initiative, to ensure that all participants can benefit from a modern education.
In conclusion, the Interactive Science Toolkit represents a real opportunity to transform educational processes in both rural and urban contexts, allowing students to learn to think and solve problems in a structured way, regardless of the technological resources available at their school and the traditional methods of teaching used by their educators.
