Basic Location Requirements

You must have a location in order to have a microschool. Finding this location is up to the Guide. If there are any costs involved in using the space, that is paid for by the Guide.

Here are some rules associated with the space:

  1. The microschool can be held at a home (the guide’s or someone else’s), an office, church, or other facility

  2. There must be at least 25 square feet of space per student, 250 square feet for a microschool of ten students (this does not include bathrooms, hallways, closets, or bedrooms)

  3. The space must be clean, comfortably seat all the students, provide reliable wifi, have a bathroom that is accessible from a common area, provide adequate drinking water, be air-conditioned (where applicable), have no illegal drugs, and weapons, prescription medication and alcohol must be locked and away

  4. If a microschool with students of any age has a swimming pool, jacuzzi, hot tub or other body of water, it must be enclosed by a locking fence, safety cover or net. Self-closing hinges and door locks are not sufficient

If the space for a microschool is rented, permission from the landlord or property manager must be obtained before the microschool can start. Here is the permission form to be filled out by the landlord or property manager.
