What is the weather like in San Miguel?
On average, the warmest months are April and May. Most rainfall (rainy season) is seen in June, July, August, and September.
San Miguel de Allende has dry periods in January, February, March, April, November, and December.
The coolest month is January.
July is the wettest month.
February is the driest month.
May is the hottest month.
What is the easiest way to get to San Miguel?
We suggest either León airport (BJX) or Querétaro airport (QRO). Querétaro is a small airport and very easy. Both are, but Querétaro is smaller and about 15 minutes closer to San Miguel de Allende than León.
What is the cost of heating the pool?
The cost varies from house to house. Take into consideration that it usually takes a full 24 hours to heat the pool, so the heating up might start before your arrival. To know the cost of the pool heating of a specific home (or homes) please contact Karla at guestservices@premiersanmiguel.com
What is the average cost of a meal per day?
It varies from house to house, but it usually is around $25 USD per day, per person, considering breakfast, lunch and dinner or appetizers. For days when only one or two meals are needed, we estimate between $10 and $15 USD per person, per day.
What is the procedure for having the house stocked with groceries at our arrival?
We can take care of that for you! Review our grocery packages here.
If you do not require groceries stocked before your arrival, the house staff at most properties can do the shopping for you.
What places do you recommend for grocery shopping?
We do shopping in the following places (click on the name to review the location on Google Maps):
La Comer: The largest and best-stocked supermarket in San Miguel.
Bonanza: A small neighborhood supermarket in downtown, with a lot of gourmet goods and American products.
La Europea: A liquor and gourmet goods store.
The Municipal Market: Where you can find the freshest fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy products, poultry, etc.
How do I access the house? Will there be someone at the home when I arrive?
A staff member will be at the house at your arrival to greet you and show you around the house.
If your arrival is after hours, the house staff will wait for you, but you will need to pay them overtime fee or provide them a tip (we will let you know the suggested tip amount before your arrival).
Will someone provide us a key to the house?
The house staff will provide you with sets of keys, usually one set of keys per bedroom. Upon departure, please make sure you leave ALL the sets of keys at the house before leaving, as there is a $100.00 USD charge for each key not returned.
After your departure, you will have 48 hours to inform us if you have the keys; if we do not hear from you during that time frame, we will automatically deduct the $100 USD fee. Keys should be sent via FedEx Express or DHL Express, with a tracking number.
Please note that the keys should be received at our office within a week of your departure; otherwise, we will deduct the $100 USD fee.
Is the staff of the houses bilingual?
You will find that some of the members of the staff understand English pretty well but are not very fluent in speaking it. All the on-site managers do speak English fluently.
Can we hire a nanny?
We can recommend a nanny to take care of your children if you are planning to go out. More details can be found here.
Do the houses have a purified water system?
Some houses do; other homes get their drinking water from a water company in large plastic bottles called "garrafones." Some homes will provide drinking water bottles at your arrival.
The water that comes from the faucets is entirely safe for brushing your teeth, taking a shower, etc. although not for drinking.
When will I get my security deposit back?
After your departure, we will contact the staff of the house to check for damages to the property.
The full refund will be made within thirty days after your departure in case there aren't any damages to the property. If any damage was done, the amount to fix it would be deducted from your security deposit, and you will receive the balance within 30 days after your departure.
Where can I find ATMs and Currency Exchange Offices?
Around the main square (Jardín Principal), there are several ATM ́s and currency exchange offices. Most ATM's are open 24/7. You will find them at a walking distance from any of the properties you are staying at.
NOTE: The currency exchange agencies do not take dollar bills with ink stains, scratches, written things, or tears. Also, please do not pay the staff with this kind of dollar bills since they won't be able to exchange them.
Can we pay in dollars around town?
Most restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and hotels take dollars at the exchange rate of the day.
However, it is advisable to carry pesos in lower denomination bills and coins as there are vendors around the main square and the market that only take Mexican currency.
Do you have any recommendations for restaurants and stores?
Our recommendations are located below in the Around Town section.
Besides this, you will find throughout San Miguel booklets and brochures with options of galleries, shops, restaurants, coffee shops, museums, and many other places of interest. They come with directions and a map so you can find them easily.
Are taxis easy to find? Are they safe?
Taxis are safe in San Miguel. All taxi cabs are clearly identified; the most well-known fleet is green with the ID number printed on the front doors. Never go in an unmarked car.
Taxis are not very pricey, but they don't have taximeters though, it is usually a fixed fare depending on the distance. The average cost for a taxi ride will be $80 pesos (around $5 USD).
You can either stop a taxi on the street or call to have one pick you up anywhere. Know where you're going before you get in and speak confidently to the driver. Always exit on the curbside, and keep an eye out for cyclists, pedestrians, and other vehicles.
For a long-distance trip (for example, to Guanajuato, Dolores Hidalgo, etc.), we recommend using a tour company as they have more comfortable and bigger vehicles and can also provide tour guides. We can gladly help you make arrangements.
Is San Miguel a safe city?
San Miguel is generally very safe, but it is no different than the city where you live or any city that you visit. San Miguel is a great city for walking, but with so many people and so many things to look at, you need to take a few smart precautions.
Keep your belongings close and pay attention to your surroundings. Be hyper-vigilant at night and stick to well-lit, populated streets. Although San Miguel is a pedestrian-friendly city, always cross the streets in the corners and pay attention to cars and cyclists.
Since most streets are cobblestone, we advise you to opt for supportive shoes when exploring the city.
