We utilize an independent study model. In other words, students are each given their own set of curriculum which is appropriate to their grade level and ability. Students are expected to be here working for at least 7 hours per week if they are full time students. We also serve students on a part time basis. This is done by having them assigned to the ALC for one or more periods during the school day. All students must have a referral to attend the ALC. Typically these come from the high school but in some circumstances, either the parents or even the students themselves might make a referral.
The criteria used to refer students is that they must be at risk of not graduating on time. This can be for a wide range of reasons. Some typical reasons might be teen pregnancy, credit deficits due to previous failing grades, family issues and a range of other possibilities.
If you have any questions regarding referral or attendance at the ALC please either call us at 587-8090 or speak with the high school counselor.
