The People’s Linked History (PLH) project created a proof of concept semantic data model for introducing linked open data technologies and principles through the exploration of historic events for grades 6-12.
To illustrate the power of the data model, PLH will create an example data set surrounding the event of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911 that touches these data model sections, with particular attention paid to the identities of the survivors and victims of the fire, as outlined on Cornell University’s Remembering The 1911 Triangle Factory Fire website (146 lives lost!, n.d.). This data set will not only serve as a teaching reference, but will also be an example of how history and history’s documents can be presented through the framework of linked data.
