Pending Evaluation Status

on D2L Quizzes & Exams

Instructors can now use the "Pending Evaluation" status in the D2L Quizzes area to identify quizzes, exams, and questions that need to be graded.  This is a new search feature that allows instructors to find un-graded quizzes, exams, and questions after a student has completed the assessment activity.

Additional information about D2L Quizzes and Exams can be found here:

Note:  This search option may be limited to D2L Quizzes-Exams that have not enabled the assessment to be graded automatically.

(Online Learning is still testing this tool and will clarify.)

This search feature can be found in several places on the D2L Quizzes area.

Begin by navigating to the D2L Quizzes area, click on the down-arrow next to the quiz or exam, then select Grade.

If the quiz or exam has un-graded questions (and it is not set to be graded automatically), the Status column on the right of the Users tab will show "Pending Evaluation."

Previously, this column showed a score for questions that were automatically graded, and students may have mistakenly believed that the low score accounted for all questions.

The "Pending Evaluation" status shows that some questions are not yet graded, and students and instructors will not see the score until all questions have been graded.

The "Pending Evaluation" status helps instructors identify assessments that need to be graded so students don't end up with an incomplete score.  Note:  Once the questions are graded, the instructor may need to "publish" the score to the D2L Gradebook.

From here, the instructor can select the student's quiz-exam attempt, and then select "Pending Evaluations" from the Question View drop-down menu.

"Pending Evaluations" will show only the questions that need to be graded.

Another way to search for un-graded questions is to click on the Attempts tab and to expand the search options by clicking on "Show Search Options."

In the search options, select "Pending Evaluations" in the Status section, the click the Search icon above.

This search will show student exam submissions that have un-graded questions.

From there, the instructor can proceed to grade the exam attempt, or the Question View drop-down menu to view only un-graded questions.
