PPS requests consent to test students for COVID-19:

OHA COVID-19 Testing Consent Form. Please fill out the form either way so we have information for your student if we have a Covid-19 concern that requires immediate attention.

When students arrive to school

Traffic pattern- All buses will drop on 12th and Buffalo, behind the school. Bus riders will be greeted at the back parking lot doors and enter there. We ask that parents travel NORTH only on 11th Ave; that means starting from the park and passing the school towards Holland and Lombard. We will not have Safety Patrol at the crosswalk. Since parents/guardians cannot enter the building, we anticipate many more drop-offs. We ask that you do not have your child cross traffic or cross the street between cars. It takes an extra couple of minutes to loop around on 10th from Lombard to position yourself to travel north on 11th Ave. Please help keep all of our Wildcats safe at drop off and pick up.

Neighborhood bus: The regular neighborhood bus will run to accommodate pick up and drop off for both the AM and the PM session. More information about the bus can be found here at the PPS Transportation webpage.

  • Drop off: Students may begin lining up for entry 10 minutes before the start of their hybrid session. There are paw prints at the designated entrances to help begin the lines. Please help/remind your child to stay at least 6 feet from other students. If you plan to wait with your child, please stay together so that others can space appropriately. Students will enter a doorway that is close to their classroom. We are using 6 entrances to help with spacing and pacing at entry. Parents/Guardians are not permitted to enter the building.

  • Pick up: Your student will exit from the assigned doorway near their classroom. Students will have the opportunity to pick up lunches as they exit, so will exit about 10-15 minutes after the cohort session ends. (closer to 10:30 or 2:45) Students are not required to take lunches home.Students may not wait in the office or in the doorways.

Ground markers and colored flags will help students line up by grade and maintain 6 feet of distance.

We have 6 separate doorways for entry and exit. Doors will be open 10 minutes before the start of cohort.

The assigned doorways will be closed 10 minutes after the cohort start time. If your student arrives after 8:10AM or 12:25PM, please use the main front door. There is a doorbell on the far left and an office staff person will be notified that your student has arrived. A staff person will meet them at the door and perform the visual screening before giving them a pump of hand sanitizer and sending them to class.

Look for your grade level flag to find your entrance way!

We have colored flags that will help guide students to their designated doorway for entry and exit.

Bus Riders

  • Bus riders will be met and greeted at Buffalo and 12th entrance. After their visual screen, they will be directed to their classrooms.

Watch bus rider video on how to enter the building.

Some Q&As:

  • Is Color Code required?

Woodlawn remains a code of color school but we are relaxing this for quarter 4, recognizing that no school clothes shopping should need to be done at this time. So, we encourage Code of Color but it is not required. Closed-toed shoes are a must for safety at recess.

Woodlawn gear: The PTA has youth t-shirts for sale for $5. Black Lives Matter t-shirts are available, too. Check out the PTA webpage to order and have them delivered. We will have onsite sales days this spring and will include those dates in the newsletter as they approach.

  • Can I eat in class?

Students will not eat at school. Students should bring a filled water bottle to school. Grab-n-go lunches and breakfast will be available each of the four days that students attend school. For example, on Monday’s the students will receive a bag with both breakfast and lunch in it when they exit the building after their session. AM cohort kids can eat the lunch that day and the breakfast on Tuesday morning. PM cohort kids can eat the breakfast and the lunch on Tuesday. On Friday, students will receive three of each, breakfast and lunch. On Tuesday, students will receive breakfast and lunch for 2 days. (There are no in person sessions on Wednesday)

  • What do I bring to school?

No backpacks: We do not have the space to keep students appropriately distanced in the hallway coat areas. Students will hang coats on their chairs. We ask that you do not send a backpack to school. Your student will need a filled water bottle, which they can carry. The classroom teacher may issue the student a pocket folder to carry by hand from and to school. No other materials are needed. Students will not need their chromebook at Woodlawn.

Q:Can I bring a small baggie with extra masks?

A: Yes.

  • What if I have have medicine or an epi-pen that needs to be brought to school?

Please contact Nurse Ethel Sly esly@mesd.k12.or.us and Nurse Tyler Maybury tmaybury@mesd.k12.or.us or call the main office number (503) 916-6282. It will be important that you also notify the teacher.

  • What if I have questions?

School Office: The Office Staff will be available for calls from 7:30am-3:30pm. If your student will not be participating in their live cohort, please call to report the absence. You may leave a message at any time. 503-916-6282

Changing live cohort formats: We can accommodate a change from in person hybrid to distance learning but it may involve a teacher change. It is more difficult for us to accommodate a change from distance learning to hybrid in person due to room capacity constraints. If you are considering a format change please call the office.

Daily Self-Screen Checklist and Visual Screening

Please check your student's health using the self-screen checklist every day before your student comes to school. If you answer YES to any of the questions, do not send your student to school.

At each of our designated doorways, students will be greeted by a staff member who will conduct a visual screening of each student before they enter. Additionally, students will receive a pump of hand sanitizer before heading straight to their classroom. At dismissal time, the teacher will escort the cohort out the assigned doorway.

Before your child comes to school

All students will use the Daily Self-Screener to determine whether they are allowed to attend school. If students answer YES to any of the screener questions, they should stay home.

When students arrive, they will be visually screened for Covid-19 symptoms. If there is concern that a student needs additional follow-up, the student will be escorted and isolated in the school Symptom Space room.
