Hey Riders! Graduation is June 4th at 4:30 in Providence Park. Let’s celebrate our graduating Seniors by interviewing them about their high school experience and what they have planned for
post-graduation life.
It’s impossible to talk about the class of 2023’s high school journey without addressing the COVID pandemic. Camille, a senior at Roosevelt said “It’s been a trip. It’s been a bit difficult to transition out of the pandemic. I feel like the classes are way less connected than they used to be. I feel like everyone’s just a little bit less social.” Other seniors echoed Camille’s sentiment. “I think it made me worse in an academic sense in the way that it slowed me down and I wasn’t really able to learn anything,” said Jack, another senior. In my experience, COVID made high school seem shorter, which makes me nervous as to whether I’m prepared for post-secondary education.
Speaking of which, seniors at Roosevelt are taking a variety of post high school paths. Jillian is going to PCC to be a dental hygienist, and Claire is studying neuroscience at University of Oregon. Ben, a senior, is “taking a gap year... then going to PSU for film. During the gap year I’ll be living with friends, then me and one of those friends are going to Mexico for two weeks.” Jack plans on being a PCC graduate. And me? I’m headed to BYU-Idaho to study computer engineering.
When it comes to graduation day, Jillian said it best. “I’m really excited, I can’t wait to walk across the stage.” Jack looks forward to graduating too. “I’m ready to start doing other things than being in one building.” However, some seniors are nervous about what comes next. “I personally wish I had another year of high school just because it’s scary having to think about going off on your own,” said Ben. “It’ll be fun to wear a cap and gown and have a graduation party after. It’s gonna be a good time, it’ll just be a little scary”
Finally, seniors have some big plans to celebrate their monumental accomplishment. Jillian said, “The day before I’m going to have a big barbecue with my family and friends.” Claire is taking a trip to Arizona, and Ben and Jack might hang out with friends and family.
Thanks for celebrating the Class of 2023 with us at Voices of Roosevelt. We’d like to thank all the teachers and support staff who made this graduating class possible, and congratulations seniors!
