During the 22/23 school year we had three shows in total. To kick off the season our theatre department put on CLUE! A couple of days before Halloween. This show included three separate casts for each night of the show!
Their second show of the year was Failure- A Love Story. A show filled with love, loss, and laughter. This show was put forward for main stage production at the international thespian festival but was unfortunately not considered. This show was still a lovely show for those who got to see it!
Our last and final but certainly not least show was Senior Shorts! Senior shorts were senior written and directed short plays. There were twelve separate shorts and we split those in half for each venue. The one show they put on was sold out and had packed seats. This show was their last hurrah as seniors and some of the theatre departments best work as a whole! The season was packed full of excitement and people and we hope it will be even more fun next year and the years to come.
Over the course of this year we’ve had several fun and eventful spirit weeks leading up to certain events and just for fun! Our most recent was at the end of April. This week included fun new days like Black Tie Tuesday, On Wednesdays we Wear Pink And Jersey/Sport day! We also had the return of some old favorites including PJ Day and Rider Spirit day! Our personal favorite was the spirit week that was a couple weeks before Halloween! This spirit week included a favorite character day! Where a couple of our team members and club members dressed up as the three girls from Despicable Me! Overall students and teachers really come together and have a lot of fun during theses weeks.
Speaking of school-wide events, RHS has hosted multiple school dances this year. Starting with Homecoming in October following the homecoming football game that went into triple overtime, Winter Formal in January, and the Midnight Masquerade Prom earlier in May. Different affiliation groups around the school have also hosted dances. Such as the MECha dance that was on April 28th and the BSU dance that will be held later in May. School dances are a time for students to come together and enjoy the music and dancing as well as each other’s company.
This year we have had a total of 7 editions (including this one!) under the supervision of two different teachers this year, we’ve really made the most out of our resources. Near the end of last year Ellie Weiner expressed interest in starting a school newspaper to the old communications teacher Ms.Henderson. They then worked together to make a club last year and now the publications class we have today. At the beginning of this year, Ms. Henderson left us in the very capable hands of Ms. Tara who has taken us to where we are now and to this very edition! Without their help as well as the rest of the team, we wouldn’t be able to be here let alone having a printed edition of this newspaper! Cant wait for another year full of exciting editions (paper and people included!)
This school year, as always, was filled with extremely exciting sporting events. From our Football team beating Grant High School for the first time in 21 years and being PIL co-champions, to our boys basketball team making it to the playoffs and facing off against Tualatin High School. Our girls volleyball team is currently 14-7 with three games left in their season and we wish them luck. We have had so many great sport moments like going into TRIPLE overtime during our homecoming game. This year, we’ve seen many fun events as well as some challenging ones. As always with sports, we can’t always be the best but we are looking forward to another notable year of Roosevelt sports.
