Families come in many different shapes and sizes and many even extend beyond the bounds of biology. Roosevelt High School’s women’s soccer coach Jaimie Facchini speaks fondly of the family she has built with her team on and off the field this past season.
While this past season didn’t quite go the way the team expected, “I can't wait for next season,” Coach Jaimie said, “we have made growth every year and I think with the talent within Roosevelt now and those coming next year, I'm looking forward to a successful season! I can't wait to continue the momentum that we've started.” She speaks of her team as a “FAMILY. These girls take care of one another on and off the field. The upperclassmen took in the freshmen and they all came together, we laughed together, cried together, and built each other up. It's what family does.”
Over her seventeen years of coaching soccer, Coach Jaimie has gained an immense amount of experience and drive from her family and her students. “My kids made me want to start coaching” she explained, “and then I fell in love with it and became more serious so I started coaching club soccer and getting higher-level licenses.” This led her to Roosevelt High School and the women’s soccer team. Now in her seventeenth year of coaching, Coach Jaimie continues to be inspired by her team and “all the kids I've coached, to see them years later and have them still say "hi" inspires me to keep coaching. It's building the relationship with the players and hopefully having a positive impact on their lives.” She goes on to speak about the future, “I know that when I get invited to one of my player's weddings, I will have become the coach I want to be because I will have made that much of an impact on a player. But the players are the ones doing all the work, I'm just helping them along the way.”
And while Coach Jaimie’s players might inspire her, it is the truest job of a coach to inspire and push their players to be the best they can be. “Go out and have fun, play like it's the last game you'll ever play, try something new, work as a team and enjoy these moments together. if you're not having fun, then it's not worth it.” Coach Jaimie says to her players before games, “You have to have a love for the sport first and foremost, and with that love comes enjoyment, why do something you don't enjoy? If you're not having fun, that will come out in how you play and will negatively affect your teammates. Enjoy the game!”
