As we know, RHS's gender-neutral bathrooms have been closed for a while and people want answers as to why. There have been several rumors as to why, but no one really knows the reason. Many kids are upset that they can’t use their preferred bathroom, so I sat down with our principal KD Parman to talk about why they were closed and what some possible solutions are.
She said that there were some safety concerns with how the bathrooms were being used, and she wanted a way to keep everyone safe. Swastikas being drawn and carved on the boys' bathroom walls is one of those student safety concerns impacting our community. This information was passed on to the RHS student community through a letter from Principal Parman in early March.
As we all know they are re-opened but we want a way to keep them open and not closed again. Principal Parman said that it would be surprising if single-stall bathrooms closed again, but she doesn't know definitely if they will or not. But for now, they are back open and should stay open for the remainder of the year.

These bathrooms need to be accessible to EVERYONE, but we can't keep it that way if students are making them unsafe for others. We understand that kids need breaks but it's just very hard when people take those breaks in the single-use bathrooms. She would like us to remind you to only use the bathrooms for bathroom purposes so that we can keep them open for those who need them. If you have any input on how we can keep these bathrooms open, or what you would like to see happen with the situation, please let us know.
