I have spent nearly all my life an Oregonian in Eugene, Corvallis, and Portland. I lived briefly in New York City and England. Little known fact: my father is English but I can't fake an accent still to this day! My interests outside my profession are: rock climbing, trail running, skiing and general adventuring in the outdoors. I student taught at Sabin & Vestal School before joining the teaching staff at Vestal in the 2015-16 school year. I have enjoyed finding a community of students, families, and dedicated educators at Vestal! I come from a background of working with students with significant disabilities as a para-educator with Special Education before becoming a teacher.
Teaching Philosophy
Education is an opportunity for a community to celebrate individuals' strengths and support the potential of all learners. All students benefit from an environment where they are encouraged to work together in the discovery of new ways to support and grow with each other. Students learn best when engaged with opportunities in this environment. We learn by a process of reflection on challenging experiences and by perseverance in reaching our potential. It is my constant challenge to reflect on how my own practices influence students' access to education. I hold the responsibility for expecting students to achieve their very best. Supporting all learners' capacity to attain success is my privilege.
Degrees
B.A. in English - Clark Honors College at University of Oregon, Eugene, OR
M.S. in Special Education - Portland State University, Portland, OR

This is my second (and final!) year of student teaching at Vestal! I will be in Mr. Ian's class AND Ms. Lael's 3rd grade class. I'm a student at PSU in the Inclusive Elementary Educator Program. I have teaching experience as a substitute in Portland and ESL teacher in Japan, but I grew up in Dallas, TX. I enjoy backpacking and camping, cooking, running, and reading a good book. Can't wait to meet everyone!

I have been working as a paraeducator with PPS for ten years and this year will be my fifth at Vestal! I grew up in Ohio and moved to Portland in 2007. I have an older brother and a twin sister that also live in Portland. I travel to Ohio at least a couple time a year to visit the rest of my family. I like to be active and outdoors, I like to cook and I am a big fan of the Timbers and Blazers! I am exited to work with you all this year!
Diane
I am a mother of two and grandmother of two little girls. They are nine and four years old. I love to walk, swim, read, and bike. I have two cats named Zoa and Zayn. My granddaughters are my pride and joy.

I am a speech language pathologist and this is my first year at Vestal Elementary. I was born and raised in Whitefish, Montana, and I grew up skiing, hiking, and camping. I moved to Portland for graduate school and chose to stay because I love the city and its people.

I've been an occupational therapist with PPS for nearly 26 years. I love helping kids access their education to make school a more positive and fun experience. I have two children, a daughter who goes to OSU and a son who is a senior at Jefferson High School. When I'm not at work I like playing and watching soccer, hiking and international travel.
Keith Laskey, PT
I have been a physical therapist for 32 years working with children (and adults) in the Acute-care, rehab, ICU/NICU, wound care and, most recently, the school setting.

I am very excited to meet you all this year. I look forward to seeing you everyday and getting to work with you on your journey of reading, math and writing. I have been working for Portland Public Schools for 15 years. I have been working with teacher Ian for 5 of those years. I love to hike, travel and read. On one of my recent travels I went to Canada. This picture is at a famous Lake in Canada called Lake Louise.
Portland Public Schools - Special Education describes Intensive Skills Centers:
"These classrooms support students with learning needs due to cognitive delays that impact their participation in the general curriculum. These programs provide specially designed instruction, as appropriate, in the areas of functional and basic academic skills, social skills, communication skills, and for some students, basic life routines. Older students receive instruction in vocational and community skills. Students learn literacy and math skills at their instructional level. Related services, including assistive technology and nursing support, are provided consistent with each student’s IEP. Students have opportunities to participate in general education experiences."
