Here I will keep frequently used links and resources, past newsletters, and other information, so that all of the information you need to connect to school is in one place. If you are looking for something specific and can't find it here, please let me know so that I can find and add it!

About Ms. Torain (she/her)
Hello! I look forward to getting to know you all! This is my 11th year teaching at Astor, and during that time I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. This will be my 24th year teaching, and in that time I have taught all grades K-5, English Language Development, and I've been a Reading Specialist. Prior to PPS, I taught in San Francisco, CA, and in the Reynolds School District in Oregon.
I am a biracial (of African and European descent) woman born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, where I lived and learned until I moved to Medford, MA to attend Tufts University. There I earned my BA in English before journeying on to San Francisco, CA, where I spent 12 years, working in publishing and at a language translation company before deciding to become a teacher and joining AmeriCorps as a literacy tutor in Oakland, CA. In AmeriCorps, I met my husband, Eric, and together we embarked on our teaching careers in SFUSD. We moved to Portland after we married in 2004, and now we live in the Overlook neighborhood with our two children, Jazz (16) and Amber (13), and our dog, Cedar.
Some of my most favorite things in all the world are being outdoors, listening to and playing music, practicing yoga, eating delicious food, reading, and snuggling with my family.
