Dear Fifth Grade Families,
Intro:
I wanted to tell you a bit about myself. I have worked in Portland Public Schools for 16 years. I have taught at Richmond as a first grade dual immersion teacher, Lewis Elementary as a second grade teacher and the past two years at Vestal ,in fifth grade. I am also the building TAG coordinator. I LOVE being at Vestal and working with fifth graders! I have four children of my own, at home. My eldest are eighth grade twins, a nine year old and a very active 4 year old named Levi. I also have an orange cat named KWAZI. My family LOVES to spend time in the sun, at the river, rollerskating and skateboarding. I may actually bring my skates to school sometime! I also love to read. I am not just saying that because I am your teacher, but escaping into a book and using my imagination to create images of what I read is a great break from screen time. My husband Jesse is a contractor and substitute teaches at his favorite school in Gladstone.
Communication:
I will be using Remind to send announcements. I will also use email as well. My email is bmnurphy@pps.net. We will use Class DOJO in the classroom, which will be available for families to join. I will also continue to use SEESAW to post ALL assignments from class and any homework assignments that will come up. I will most likely call you if you send an email that requires a response!
Assignments and School Supplies:
All assignments will be posted on Seesaw. Students will bring their Chromenook to school each day. It is important that each student get into this habit! All school supplies will be provided at school. BE sure to have a backpack packed with a Chromebook and a waterbottle each day!
First Day:
Please come in through the front door (off of Glisan). We are upstairs in room 202! Students will arrive, find their locker, say hello to me, and then find their desk. We will provide a water bottle and all school supplies. Supplies will stay here (unless needed for a particular project). Students will be excused at 2:15. Fifth grade students can meet families outside, take bus, walk home etc.
Conclusion:
Of course there is so much more to say and share! Please feel free to reach out and ask questions! I am really looking forward to meeting you all and getting to know all the children.
Your new teacher,
Ms. Murphy
