My name is Alex Mahrt, and I am the teacher-librarian at Beaumont Middle School and Hosford Middle School. I am here to support your reading and learning, in the classroom and beyond. Remember: the library is for all students to explore their interests!

I have worked as a teacher and librarian for ten years. I taught high school English Language Arts in Chicago and Seattle, and I love reading and talking about books!
I was raised in Bend, Oregon, and my family comes from Switzerland, where I lived as a little kid.
My partner and I have lived in Portland for a year, and we have a daughter named Frankie. We also have two awesome and grumpy cats named Ernie and Algernon.
As a librarian, I love to read! I like all kinds of books, but I especially like reading poetry and science fiction.
I also LOVE to cook. Some of my favorite things to make are fresh pasta and pies. I am also learning to garden and grow my own fruits and vegetables.
On my days away from school, I like to hike, camp, and travel.
