ALL students applying to college must fill out the survey. If you need a counselor letter of recommendation, this form gives you the opportunity to provide additional information that will help counselors write their letters. You’ll be asked several questions about your high school experiences in academics and extracurricular activities. You can find those questions here
Letter of Rec "Ask By" Dates CLICK HERE!
As a guideline here are some “Ask By” dates:
Official Application Deadline Oct 15th - Ask by September 24th
Official Application Deadline Nov 1 - Ask by Oct. 10th
Official Application Deadline Nov 15th - Ask by Oct 24th
Official Application Deadline Dec. 1st - Ask by Nov 10th
Official Application Deadline Dec. 15th - Ask by Nov 22nd
Official Application Deadline Jan. 1st - Ask by Nov 22nd
Remember: not all schools require letters of recommendation, most public universities do not, most private universities do. Research your colleges to determine whether or not you will need letters before completing this process. If you need a letter of recommendation, typically you will need 1-2 teacher letters and 1 from your counselor. Please only ask for the number of letters you need.
1. Creating a College List in MaiaLearning CLICK HERE!
MAIA Learning >Universities>Applying>Add University
Add each of your schools. You must choose from the drop-down menus APPLICATION TYPE (what kind of application are you using?), APPLICATION TERM (when you want to begin college), and APPLICATION PLAN (regular decision, rolling admissions, early action and early decision). Once you choose your application plan, your official application due date will self-populate. For each college, you will see whether a counselor letter is required, as well as the number of teacher letters you may submit. “Optional” means that letters are not required and are not used as part of the selection process.

2. College Application List Survey CLICK HERE!
College Application Survey - (Questions in the counselor letter request)
ALL STUDENTS must fill out this survey, which asks you to confirm that your "Applying" list is updated on MaiaLearning, lets us know about your earliest deadlines, and helps us gather information from you if a counselor letter of recommendation is needed. If you DO NOT need a counselor letter, the survey will be much shorter.

Step 1: Fill out the College Application Survey with the counselor recommendation questions.
Optional: Teacher Evaluation Form - Supporting feedback from THREE teachers NOT writing letters of rec for you. Please copy the link below and email it, with your ID Number, to those three teachers along with a note saying “please and thank you” for filling them out on your behalf.
Optional Parent/Guardian Comment Form - This allows a parent to brag about you, so please forward this link to them.
4. Do you need a Teacher Recommendation? CLICK HERE!
4a. Talk to the teachers you would like to write a letter for you - if you need two, please only ask for two. If they agree, go to MaiaLearning to assign them. Only teachers will be on the available list of names.
Universities>Recommendations>type in names of teachers>assign them to your schools>choose your earliest official due date>type in a short note of thank you>SAVE on the lower right side.
They will be invited to fill out information based on your invitation.
5. Are you applying through the CommonApp? CLICK HERE!
5. ARE YOU APPLYING THROUGH THE COMMON APPLICATION? If so, you need to link your common app to your MaiaLearning account.
Sync yor Common Application and MaiaLearning under your profile link in the upper right hand corner of MaiaLearning. MAIA Learning >Profile >Settings >Match Common App
Don’t assign recommenders within the Common Application.
The FERPA Waiver and granting permission for school staff to send your letter and transcripts is hard to find. Once you have listed all of your colleges in the Common Application itself, click on any of the colleges on your list to see the FERPA WAIVER on the left hand side. Nothing can be sent until your common app is matched in MaiaLearning!
*Please note:
If you add more colleges to MaiaLearning after you first filled out College Application List/Transcript and Counselor Letter Request, you will need to complete a new Google SURVEY linked here College Application List/Transcript and Counselor Letter Request, so that your counselor knows they need to send your documents to the new colleges on your list! Unfortunately, MaiaLearning does not notify your counselor of any updates or changes a student makes! You will need to inform your teachers if you add colleges as well because they need to send their LORs. If you need help or clarification on any of these steps always reach out to your counselor, so they can help.
