Counseling at Lent
Welcome to the counseling website for Claudia Brown, K-5 counselor for Lent Elementary School.
About Me:
I am grateful for my backgrounds in art, mental health, spirituality, movement and activism. All of these passions come together in my school counseling practice as I work with children to help them express their feelings in a healthy way, resolve conflicts, care for themselves, and be kind and inclusive to their community members.
In my free time, I like to read, dance, do yoga, enjoy social activies, dip into bodies of water, and relax in my back yard.

Following the American School Counseling Association's (ASCA) model, my school counseling program is made up for three tiers.
Tier One encompasses the work I do with all students, including classroom counseling lessons. Some topics I cover in my counseling curriculum are emotional management, conflict resolution and kindness to others. We learn about empathy and perspective taking, anti-bulllying, identity, inclusion, and diversity.
Tier Two work is for kids that need a little extra support with social-emotional learning and usually involves small groups on topics such as anxiety, social skills/flexible thinking, emotional management, and other topics that may be needed.
Tier Three work is for students that need one on one support. I provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention focused on mental health or situational concerns such as grief or difficult transitions. I also provide referrals to school and community resources that treat mental health issues (suicidal ideation, violence, abuse and depression) with the intent of removing barriers to learning and helping the student return to the classroom. It is my deep belief that all people deserve to feel seen, heard and appreciated for exactly who they are.
For those students needing additional mental health support, parents can seek therapy. For children I recommend family therapy, play therapy or art therapy. One good way to find a therapist is here: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists. Please see the other sections on this site for more resources.
