The role of a school counselor is to support the social and emotional development of ALL students in the school, not just some of them. A school counselor creates lessons on social and emotional skills that help all students.
I occasionally meet with students one on one if they have a short-term need for support.
If you are looking for longer-term support, I can help you find an outside counselor/therapist or arrange for students to meet regularly with our onsite Morrison Center therapist (free if you have OHP!).
I am the case manager for all students who have a 504 Plan. For more information on 504 plans, click here: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali
I also act as the advisor for many of our clubs, including the GSA and mindfulness club in middle school and I run groups for K-5 students when needs arise. These groups can be around any social/emotional skill that a number of students are needing extra work on, such as making friends, controlling anger, managing worries, grief, etc.
I am also part of our schools Support Team and Student Intervention Team (SIT), both of which mean weekly to discuss ways our school can better serve our school community.
