What sports are offered in middle school?

School sports are offered through Portland Interscholastic League (PIL). Check out their website here.

What routes do the school buses take?

PPS only provides busing automatically if a student lives more than 1.5 miles away from their neighborhood school. If your child attends a school outside your neighborhood zone through an open transfer or a special choice program, or if you live within the standard walking distance but have problems with logistics or schedules, you will need to submit a "HITCHER" form to request busing.  If you fill out a Hitcher Form, you can ask for your child to ride an existing bus route. This is possible if there is extra space on the bus. It also requires that no new stops or extra miles are needed. Completed forms should be returned to the school office. Student Transportation will review your request and communicate final approval.

What school supplies does my student need?

Every student who attends Harriet Tubman will receive free learning supplies. We believe this initiative will help our students start the school year with everything they need for a successful and productive year. Our goal is to ensure every student has the tools they need to succeed.

Students will receive their supplies during the first week of school.

Included Supplies:

• 3” 3-ring binder (enclosed binder which includes, pencil pouch, file organizer, pockets, pencils, highlighters, sticky notes, & eraser )

• Single subject notebooks for each class

• Pencil sharpener

Please note that some teachers may request additional special items for their classrooms. This information will be available on the teacher's Canvas page and ParentVue.

We are also accepting donations of hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and Kleenex. Donations can be dropped off in the school office. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and help ensure a clean and healthy learning environment.

Does my student need a change of clothes for PE?

No. Students exercise in the clothes they came to school in.

What is a WEB Leader?

WEB stands for Where Everyone Belongs and is a program where responsible 8th graders come together to help 6th graders feel welcome at a new school. The goal is to give 6th graders a community during their first year in middle school through group activities, competitions, and chances to connect throughout the year.

How much does breakfast and lunch cost?

Free!! ALL HTMS students can enjoy breakfast and lunch at no charge for the 2026-27 school year.

What is being served for each meal?

Breakfast includes an entrée, choice of fruit, and milk. Lunch includes a choice of entrée, milk, and unlimited fruits and vegetables. Students must choose at least three foods, with one food being at least a 1/2 cup of fruit and/or a vegetable.

How can I view my student's schedule?

It's available in a few different ways:

• Attend the Welcome Back Kick Off in August 20th.

• Look on ParentVue or StudentVue

• Schedules are also passed out on the first day of school and on the first day of each quarter
