How to be an Antiracist
Description: What is your role in the fight against racism? You may not have the financial means to donate to an Anti-racist organization, feel comfortable attending a protest, or march for justice. However, everyone can locate a space in which they can operate to amplify Antiracist voices, ideas, or policies. According to Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, an Antiracist is “one who is supporting an Antiracist policy through their actions or expressing an Antiracist idea.” In this session, you will explore how you can use your unique strengths, access, and privileges to position yourself in the fight against racism.

We start with the assumption that everyone who attends this workshop wants to be a better ally and is ready to do more while acknowledging the work that has been done thus far. Description: In order to increase preparedness and to facilitate team building, our emergency management program has prepared a School Emergency Response Plan Training and Tabletop Exercise (TTX). The School Emergency Response Plan establishes roles on the School Emergency Team (SET). The SET plays a crucial role in response and recovery during emergency situations. One of the best ways to plan and prepare any emergency team is to discuss and review roles and to put our emergency plans to the test while working to identify gaps and areas of improvements. Tabletop exercises (TTX) provide the perfect discussion platform to review roles and responsibilities, assess emergency plans and preparedness, and facilitate conversations around response and recovery actions.Workshop Learning Objectives: Assess the ability to establish situational awareness, implement an effective command structure and activate critical stakeholders. We start with the assumption that everyone who attends this workshop wants to be a better ally and is ready to do more while acknowledging the work that has been done thus far. Our workshop moves at an intentional pace with rigorous protocols to allow multiple opportunities for emotional and intellectual curiosity. This session provides space for discussion and excavation of whiteness and how it is often centered in Predominantly White Institutions (PWI) like Portland Public Schools.
