What is an Early College Advisor?

At Pleasantville High School, Early College Advisors:

  • Serve as a caring, positive role model for students

  • Are accountable and available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside of the traditional prescribe times and day when required to do so (within reason)

  • Develop respectful, meaningful, and appropriate relationships with each student and his/her parent/guardian

  • Promote a victorious environment and celebrate each student’s accomplishments

  • Are an encouraging, trusted adult that advocates for and on behalf of the students and families

  • Are responsible for reporting each student’s progress, both educationally and socially, through minimum quarterly reports, phone calls to parents, and weekly student meetings

  • Forecast education need of each student

  • Coordinate advisory meetings as scheduled

  • Facilitate additional academic, social, and health services for each child as needed

  • Assist in identifying, establishing, and monitoring learning opportunities for students

  • Facilitate quarterly “Student Success Plans” with each family or guardian

  • Hold students accountable for their progress

  • Ensure that each student employs standard materials prescribed by school staff (personal learning plans, planners, journals, etc.)

  • Mediate student conflict to the best of ability

  • Work with school team on academic and social intervention strategies for student

  • Provide supplemental and educational activities in order to support student growth

  • Assess student academic, social, and personal strengths and needs

  • Provide support for students as they navigate through the “GATEWAY Process”
