From social networking to cloud computing to gaming, there is no field untouched by large amounts of data. Adopting a scientific approach for analysing such data is the key to extraction of information. In this regard, Statistics as a subject plays a predominant role. It has wide ranging applications in areas such as the data analytics, machine learning, actuarial science, weather forecasting, political campaigns, financial market, sports, research, prediction etc.

The Department imparts rigorous training and exposure on fundamental concepts of Statistics and Data analysis necessary for the success in industry or higher education. The data analysis skills you learn here and probably in your follow-up post-graduation courses, might just land you a very interesting and lucrative career. Some of the significant highlights of the department are enumerated below.

• Our department offers three certificate courses in quantitative aptitude, data visualization and analysis using R software on the Moodle learning management system.

• Encourage students to undertake research projects to gain hands-on experience in data analysis.

• Motivate and support students to take up online courses in Swayam-NPTEL platform

• Around 50% of the students from the department join post-graduate studies in reputed institutions

• Provide opportunities to participate in various inter-collegiate stat-fests and competitions and make contributions to the wall magazine.

• Organize webinars and guest lectures by domain experts.
