Carissa graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Kinesiology and a credential in Physical Education. Played and graduated from Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, CA. 

Carissa is in her 10th year teaching PE, the last 8 being at PHS. She spent 5 years working under San Diego coaching hall of famer Jay Trousdale before becoming the head coach at PHS.
