AVID Program Description - AVID's goal is to prepare students for four-year college eligibility. It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students, and in closing the achievement gap. In high school, AVID students are enrolled in some of our school's toughest classes, such as honors and Advanced Placement while in middle school they develop the skills needed to achieve in these courses. In AVID, they learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college attainable. Their self-images improve, and they become academically successful leaders and role models for other students.
AVID Student Description - AVID targets students who have the desire to go to college and the determination to work hard. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but need support to reach their full potential. Often, they will be the first in their families to attend college. Many AVID students have lofty goals and need support to meet them. Most important is the student's level of determination to succeed via their own efforts.
