This unit is designed to extend students’ fluency by exploring haerenga, events, activities, holidays, and everyday journeys. In this kaupapa, ākonga refine and deepen their reo by talking about where they’ve been, what they’ve experienced, and where they’re heading next.
Students learn to describe past, present, and future events with richer detail, using figurative language, a wider range of grammatical structures, and authentic Māori perspectives. By looking back at what they know and looking forward to new learning, ākonga grow their ability to communicate confidently in real-world contexts — planning events, sharing opinions, comparing experiences, and describing their movements through the world.
