NZC Taumata: Levels 5–8 | Year Levels: 11–13 | Duration: 30 lessons + 10 hours | Cost: $899 + GST
The Āheinga Reo resources are designed to strengthen learner capability through targeted teaching of te reo Māori grammar, aligned to the 10 sentence types and in step with the Revised Arawhata Reo progression.
Traditionally, te reo Māori grammar was often taught through the NZQA grammar progression table, which many kaiako and ākonga found heavy in content and difficult to apply in authentic, real-world contexts. As a result, learners frequently struggled to transfer grammar knowledge into fluent kōrero and meaningful communication.
Āheinga Reo takes a different approach. Each resource provides a deep-dive into one sentence type or grammar function, unpacking its structures, variations, and wider uses so learners can develop both linguistic confidence and competence over time. These resources are designed to be interwoven across any teaching and learning programme, and can be scaffolded up or down to suit learners across a wide range of year levels and settings.
All activities align with the Pou Reo framework, integrate blended learning modes, and embed tikanga and mātauranga Māori perspectives to support engaged, capable learners who understand the purpose and power of te reo Māori grammar in authentic use.
