About My Class
History and social studies is my passion. The first goal of all of my classes is to present history in a fun (or at least not boring way) for students to understand and engage with.
The second goal of all of my classes is to encourage critical thinking skills that help students consider the world around them in a way that promotes understanding and a challenge to the status quo.
Expectations & Rules
Learning requires community and participation. I understand that everyone may not be able, or want, to participate all of the time, but participation and communication help you to succeed in this class. I do not expect everyone to say or do things perfectly in class, I DO expect everyone (including myself) to try.
Hurtful speech, putting others down, or making fun of others' enthusiasm will not be tolerated. Please consider your words before you say or type them.
Employability
Employability is 4 points earned each day for following expectations and being "employable"
2 points per day Professionalism: How are you behaving in class? Is your microphone muted when others are talking? Are you dressed appropriately for school? Are you using the chat feature appropriately? Are you on time to class? Is your camera on? Can I see you on screen?
2 points per day Performance: How do you perform in class? Are you focused, participating, and answering questions? Are you spending time on your phone? Did you participate in daily class discussions?
Attendance: Skipping class with no explanation and/or an unexcused absence = a zero for employability for that day. (This adds up quickly!)
I AM QUITE FLEXIBLE ABOUT ISSUES. If students have an issue or a problem I am almost always willing to work with them and be flexible in the grading. However, communication is key. If I am not made aware there is an issue, then I cannot grade accordingly. (Students should send an email or make a comment to tell me what's happening)
