Books - Your Ticket to the World is our school-wide reading incentive program that encourages all students, pre-k through 4th grade, to practice and build strong literacy habits at home!
This year, we are excited to launch a new approach to our Books - Your Ticket program!
Research shows that reading for just 15 MINUTES a day makes a dramatic difference in a child’s vocabulary, focus, and overall confidence in school. With this in mind, we are shifting our focus from the number of books read each marking period to the number of minutes read each month!
Read 15 Minutes Daily: Encourage your child to read - or read along with them - for at least 15 minutes a day.
Track on the Monthly Log: Each day your child completes 15 minutes of reading, they will color in one book on their monthly reading log.
Become a Star Reader: Any student who reads for at least 15 minutes on 15 or more days during the month will earn the title of Star Reader! (Goals may adjust or increase throughout the school year!)
School-Wide Celebration: Throughout the year, if Ms. Boyer’s reading goals are met, Star Readers will be officially recognized and invited to participate in a special school-wide celebration event to reward their dedication to reading at home.
Your child's first reading log will be sent home in the beginning of September!
Make It a Routine: Pick a consistent 15-minute window each day - such as right after school, during dinner prep, or before bedtime.
All Reading Counts: Picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, non-fiction books, and audiobooks all count toward your child's 15 minutes.
Keep It Visible: Hang the monthly log on the refrigerator or a bedroom bulletin board so your child can proudly track their own progress.
Completed and signed reading logs may be returned to Mrs. Poulos at the end of each month.
