Supervised Agricultural Experience
SAEs or Supervised Agricultural Experiences are required for all FFA members. It serves as a way to apply things learned in the classroom to the outside world. These are led by students, instructor-supervised, and are work based learning experiences. Members can also turn these into proficiencies.
This slideshow showcases some of our members doing their SAEs ->
Placement/Internship- In a Placement/Internship SAE, students will have different opportunities to gain experience in a chose field as paid employees or volunteers. Students will also likely seek guidance to determine whether a Placement or Internship SAE is most fitting. Students are encouraged to grow a Placement SAE into an internship in the future.
Ownership/Entrepreneurship- If a student enjoys working for themselves and being their own boss this is great fit! In this SAE, students will create, own, and operate a business that provides goods and/or services to the market place. As these students gain more experience they can move from an Ownership SAE to and Entrepreneurship by meeting additional requirements.
Research: Experimental, Analysis, or Invention - This SAE has students identify the variation of research they would like to do as an Experimental, Analysis, or Invention. Students will determine their own research question and work through the scientific method to acquire new knowledge/information or exisiting infomation. They will most likely seek guidance as to figure out what is realistic during their research.
School-Based Enterprise- In School-Based Enterprise SAEs, students will lead a business enterprise that provides goods or services. These business are operated on a school campus using their facilties, equipment, and other resources provided by the Agriculture Education program, their school, or are owned by school or FFA chapter. With these it is important to remember that these are student led. The instructor/advisor is able to help and give guidance but are not allowed to make the decisons for the business.
Service Learning - This would be a good fit for those students who like to problem solve, improve the community and/or agricultural issues. Students will work individually or a small team to plan, conduct, and evaluate a project designed to proved service to their school, public entities or community. This project has to benefit an organization, group, or individuals other than the FFA chapter.
